DOMESTIC ABUSE
THERE IS NO EXCUSE

Domestic Abuse Is:
Physical, emotional or sexual abuse of one person by another. It can happen with a partner or ex. partner.

Remember:
You are not alone and it is not your fault. Domestic Abuse is an Abuse of Power.

Hitting, punching, name calling, forcing sex, enforcing pregnancy or abortion, isolation, financial control, using contact with children to abuse you or them, blatant infidelity, humiliating, controlling and more.

IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT
THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP YOU

If you Decide to Leave:

•  Try to leave a bag of clothes for yourself (and your children) at a friends house, in case you have to leave quickly.
•  Try to put some money aside for taxis, phone calls, etc. - you can reverse charges to Women's Aid Helplines .
•  Try to make sure you have Birth Certificates, Passports, Benefit Books, etc. with you.
•  Try to keep a key of your house with you at all times.
Don't worry if you can't, these things can be replaced.

If you Decide to Stay:

•  Tell Police and ask them to record it.
•  Tell neighbours so they can call Police for you if you need it.
•  Make a safety plan for you and your children.
•  Tell someone you trust about what is happening to you.
•  Get support from Agencies like Women's Aid.

If you Decide to Tell Someone:
•  Call one of the numbers (right).
•  Your story will be believed - you will not be judged or blamed for what has happened.
•  Your partner will not be contacted.
•  You will not be told what to do, but you will be supported with your decision.
